Korea has a long and distinguished history of making sophisticated high-fired ceramics. This lecture will survey Korean ceramics from the 10th through the 19th century, focusing on the classic celadons of the Goryeo dynasty (918–1392) and the delicate porcelains and rustic buncheong wares of the Joseon dynasty (1392–1910). The lecture will emphasize uniquely Korean innovations and explore relationships between Korean ceramics and Chinese ceramics, as well as relationships between Korean ceramics and works of art in other media.
