The 1979 Walter Gibbons version was the first remix to circulate (Disco Madness). But it was the next set of remixes, in 1983, that elevated the song to the top of the dance charts. Shep Pettibone's 8-minute vocal/instrumental/acapella suite is the most famous. It was backed by separate vocal & instrumental versions by Frankie Knuckles.
