Footage of the damage in Almeria and Valencia showed astonishing scenes of swollen rivers of flood water overwhelming streets and sweeping away vehicles. In Valencia the storm has been particularly severe in the regions of Ribera Alta and Utiel-Requena. The greatest damage has been caused by the overflowing of the Magro river and the Poyo ravine. The torrential rain dumped more than 400 litres per square metre in some places in a few hours, according to data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet).
