Michael Ortega is often inspired by classical music and incorporating modern themes into his piano compositions. “I envisioned a young girl with a dream to break the chains of her past. She was abandoned by her parents and forced to live with a family that never liked her. She was predestined to be in a border decorated with trees representing the limitations her family imposed onto her. Despite all of this, her heart is filled with beauty and wonder for a world of possibility. The piano starts simple and with a sense of melancholy but as you listen, you feel the shift of emotions with a burst of energy as if a dancing ballerina was performing her final act to break free. The middle goes back to establish the motif of as if the ballerina is looking back into what she is about to leave behind only to go back into a state of determination and a sense of joy as we listen to the main theme again. It ends with a slowdown, as she has learned she did not need to overcome her past, she just needed to learn to love herself and even her limited world is full of beauty and calmness“.
