Wong Kar-wai remains an art house darling despite his glacial working pace and the fact that he has only completed two films in the last 15 years. Veteran Taiwanese director Hou Hsiao-hsien finally gained international recognition by winning the best director award at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival for The Assassin.
