“Ghalibaf“ (meaning “Rugweaver“ in Persian) This dance depicts a woman weaving a Persian rug. The geometric shapes and patterns of the rug, along with the repetitive motion of the weaving, lead her into a trance where she begins to dance with the shapes and patterns of her inner music. This piece was performed by Shahrzad Dance Academy (SDA), a California based Persian dance company in the U.S., founded by Shahrzad Khorsandi in 1996. SDA performs both locally and internationally at various events such as cultural festivals, weddings, school & library educational programs, and formal concerts.
