This is our first big project for reenactment. In this pavise presented Saint Michael. Saint Michael is an archangel, a spiritual warrior in the battle of good versus evil. The background was inspired from Bohemian pavise from The Staatliche Kunstamlungen Dresden, second half of the 15th century. Our replica is 130x70 centimeters. A pavise (or pavis, pabys, or pavesen) was an oblong shield used during the late 14th to early 16th centuries. Often large enough to cover the entire body, it was used by archers and infantry soldiers. Pavises were often painted with the coat of arms of the town where they were made, and sometimes stored in the town arsenal for when the town came under attack. Religious icons such as St. Barbara and St. George were featured on the front of pavises. Purchase my work: Social media: // Disclaimer: We are not historians, this is hobby project.
