27 International Folklore Festival VITOSHA 2023 Sofia, Bulgaria Director: Belkheiyalat Abd-Elatiq The REGGADA is both a traditional dance and a musical genre originating from the eastern Rif mountains in northeastern Morocco. It was originally a war dance performed to celebrate victory, using rifles and rhythmic foot strikes. Led by a meneur, the dancers move together with distinctive shoulder movements while singing traditional melodies. The music is characterized by the use of instruments like the adjoun, zamar, and tamja. REGGADA is part of the Moroccan folk heritage. It is modernized and is now a part of festive ceremonies such as weddings and religious celebrations. It is popular in Morocco, Algeria, and has gained international recognition.
