“A British Travel & Holidays Association Film“ Commentary by John Glen. Produced by Associated British-Pathe Ltd. Continued. C/U of a photograph of a group of elderly men. Camera tilts up to show a sign which reads: “Lignum Vitae S.C.“ This is a skittles club. Various shots of men throwing “cheeses“ - flattened leather missiles which look more like a discus than the ball we would usually expect. Shot of the skittles being knocked down. “Conveniently enough skittle alleys are always in some way attached to inns.“ states the narrator. The winner of the contest makes his way to the bar - he is patted on the back by all his mates. An initiation ceremony for a “flora“ scored by a new member is to be “bumped on the cheeses“. Two men raise and lower the new boy so his bottom hits a block of wood placed on top of the “cheeses“. Quite funny! Good C/Us of men laughing and drinking beer.
