Just like many of these old towns, they started with a fantasy of striking it rich. They were a hub for the many mines covering the Garnet Mountain Range. And like most gold rush towns, never found their riches. The boom was short lived and very few persevered. You can easily hike your way up and explore the mountains as there are many old cabins, mines and portals are left exactly how they were, when the old timers left them. * Much of the historic fabric of Garnet still remains echoing “what once was“ It's now recognized as the most intact ghost town in Montana.
