Rage Against the Machine - Voice of the Voiceless (Live) 2000-06-28 Osaka Castle Hall Osaka, Japan Today Mumia Abu Jamal turns 70. He has remained imprisoned for 42 years despite glaring police, judicial, and prosecutorial misconduct in his case. Mumia Abu-Jamal has been writing since age 15, first as Minister of Information for the Philadelphia Black Panthers (1969-1971), then for numerous Philadelphia radio and print venues, including National Public Radio. Mumia is an internationally-recognized award-winning journalist known as, “the voice of the voiceless” for his many years spent writing about issues relating to racism in Philadelphia, the murder of local MOVE organization people, people in prison, and more. (@bringmumiahome) For decades, Mumia has spoken out against the injustices faced by Black Americans, including those caged in prisons like him, and the evils of US imperialism and Zionism. His reporting, writing, and messages while imprisoned and on death row are heard around the world and are a moral compass to us all. His life must be defended now more than ever as he experiences medical malpractice and elder abuse by the state. Rage Against the Machine wrote Voice of the Voiceless to honor Mumia and to share awareness of his struggle. The song was only performed once live in Osaka Japan on 2000-06-28.
