‘Crocodile Rock’, the initial release from ‘Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only The Piano Player’, was the first Elton single ever to reach #1 in the US, leading the way for a half-dozen more to follow over the next four years, and was his second Top 5 song in the UK in less than a year. Reminiscent of such 1950s classics as Bobby Darin’s ‘Dream Lover’, Johnny And The Hurricanes’ ‘Red River Rock’, and especially Pat Boone’s ‘Speedy Gonzalez’, this up-tempo number about a fictional dance craze quickly became a fan favorite and elicits enthusiastic “Nahhh-na-na-na-na-nah’s” at every show, including this one – Elton’s ‘One Night Only’ performance at Madison Square Garden in October 2000 – and on his current ‘Farewell Yellow Brick Road’ tour.
