Brand ambassador Michelle Yeoh wore a Balenciaga Couture custom gown during the Met Gala on Monday night. Taking inspiration from Cristóbal Balenciaga Ballroom gowns from the 1940’s, this dress is made of aluminum material, allowing the Balenciaga teams to sculpt the material, fixing the movement in intricate draping. The bustier top, slightly disconnected from the body, stands on its own and enhances the upper part of the body. Three fittings were essential to achieve the perfect fit, refining every curve and contour. In total, 200 hours of dedicated work were invested in bringing this gown to life, resulting in a masterpiece of timeless beauty and grace. Two pockets on the side allow an effortless attitude and add a note of modernity to this Couture gown. The innovative sculptural concept of this extraordinary piece was conceptualized by Demna, a continuation of a technique previously used in his Couture collections that embodies contemporary creativity and abstracts the passage of time.
