“Monday, 28 August On the 3rd stage of the Vuelta, the riders ride 159 kilometres from Sùria to the ski resort of Arinsal, up in Andorra. The dwarf state is very mountainous, so it is only natural that a climber wins. Andorra was founded by Charlemagne as a buffer state to prevent the Moors from invading France. The surrounding mountains played an important role in this. These mountains are also usually decisive when a peloton of cyclists finishes in Andorra. The last time the Vuelta was held there in 2017, the race exploded on the short and steep final climb, the Alto de la Comella. It came down to a sprint of nine riders, which Vincenzo Nibali won. Two years ago, a Tour stage ended in Andorra. At that time, Sepp Kuss rode solo to victory. The American won from an early breakaway group. This time the route is undulating to hilly until the riders cross the border. Once in Andorra, there are 51 kilometres to the finish line. There are two big climbs on this route. The first is the Coll d'Ordino, an 8.9 kilometre climb with a 5.1% gradient. The special attraction is that there are bonus seconds to be gained on the summit. After 13 kilometres, the riders fly into the valley to directly approach the finish climb. This climbs for 8.3 kilometres with an average of 7.7 %.“ ( & Routes 'n' Maps 'n' Flags) Creating cycling stage animations requires a lot of work and computing power.
