On the morning of September 14, a severe thunderstorm with wind and hail struck the French department of Gard. According to the French meteorological service, a two-month rainfall fell over 6 hours and about 19,000 lightning strikes were recorded. At noon, the Department of Gard was assigned a red level due to flooding. The city of Nimes has been particularly hard hit by extreme weather. Here, several blocks were flooded with water, and the outer wall of a local restaurant collapsed. South of Nimes, in a few minutes, the rains raised the Rhone River by one and a half meters. Bad weather conditions blocked traffic on the road between Nimes and Montpellier and the A9 motorway between Nimes and Gallargues. Train traffic between Nimes and Montpellier has also been completely stopped. Rescue services are involved in disaster relief and assistance to local residents. There is no data on the amount of damage yet.
