US threatens sanctions as India and Iran strike port deal New Delhi signed a 10-year contract with Tehran on Monday to develop and operate the Iranian port of Chabahar, a move that has angered the US. “Any entity, anyone considering business deals with Iran - they need to be aware of the potential risks that they are opening themselves up to and the potential risk of sanctions,“ State Department spokesman Vedant Patel told reporters.
