At the 2015 North American International Auto Show and the launch of the 2015 racing video game Forza Motorsport 6, the second-generation Ford GT was unveiled to the public and is set to go into production in 2016 after a decade-long hiatus from the original. bottom. . The car marked the 50th anniversary of the GT40 winning the 1966 24 Hours of Le Mans, and to celebrate its 50th anniversary, the car also competed in the 2016 24 Hours of Le Mans, competing in the LM GTE-Pro class. and won 1st and 3rd place in the class. Development of the second-generation GT at Ford was so secretive that, according to design director Chris Svenson, “a dozen people, including key engineers, had access to [the design studio].“ This secrecy was kept within Ford and the press until it was unveiled at the 2015 North American Auto Show. The design of the new GT started with the aerodynamic package. This went hand in hand with the design team's ultimate focus on creating a successful race car at Le Mans. Low downforce and aerodynamic efficiency were paramount in the development of the car's exterior, prompting designers to pursue the 'teardrop profile' commonly found in LMP1 cars. The new GT's powertrain therefore became a secondary benchmark for the car's exterior design and aerodynamic performance. Both V8 and V12 engines were considered, but the freedom that a compact engine affords designers ultimately led to the decision to go with Ford's EcoBoost V6 engine. The intention behind the design was the overall look of the 2nd Gen GT. This means, for example, a cut-back front nosepiece, circular taillights and raised twin exhaust pipes. Luxury and practicality are clearly not required in road car design, which is the reason behind this car's minimal cargo space and spartan interior. The seating position inside the car has been fixed to provide additional space for the bodywork and teardrop profile. As with its predecessor, the new Ford GT is available only as a two-door coupe with a mid-rear layout in order to improve stability by keeping the center of gravity near the center. The weight distribution of the new GT is 43% front and 57% rear. Unlike the first generation car, the new GT has butterfly doors and no roof-integrated parts.
