The Hôtel de Ville de Paris, houses the institutions of the municipal government of Paris. The building is located on Place du l'Hôtel-de-Ville, formerly called Place de Grève, in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. It has been the municipal seat since 1357. Its architecture is from the Renaissance period, a period in which it underwent a major remodeling by the Italian architect Domenico da Cortona, called Boccador. It was still completely rebuilt after a fire in 1871, maintaining its original appearance. It is located on the north bank of the Seine and is considered a tourist landmark by both the French and foreigners. It is used for multiple purposes: it houses the city administration, it is the place of work and meetings of the mayor (since 1977) and it also serves to host large receptions.
