It takes viewers on a tour of nightlife entertainment in Mexico City and Panama City (:18). First, Mexico City (1:22) with the tour’s host Salvador (1:29). In this feature, he courts the young Conchita Solis; a prominent ballerina (1:33). The third character is a young Mariachi band player named Loreto (1:38). Night scenes in Mexico including neon signs follow as vehicles plow down the highway bound for Mexico City’s bar scene (1:50). Salvador is pictured in his office (2:19) along with samples of his work (2:23). From the office he calls upon Conchita (2:34). The ballerina dances under Amalia Hernandez Navarro; a ballet choreographer and founder of the world renowned Ballet Folklorico de Mexico. Conchita dances for the final rehearsal number (3:22). She leaves the school in her street clothes (3:37). Loreto and another mariachi player meet for an evening smoke (4:02). The pair pay a visit to the Shrine of Saint Cecilia (4:19). Salvador’s self-portrait hangs on the wall in his apartment (4:40). ‘Street urchins’ play a Mexican picture card game on the side walk (5:36). Loreto stops and speaks with a friend in a Taxi Cab on the side of the road (5:46). A Mexican woman sells tickets for the Mexican lottery (6:02). Conchita and Salvador enter the popular nightclub and restaurant known as Mauna Loa (6:22). Polynesian décor litters the walls of Mauna Loa known as one of the most attractive of restaurants (6:33). A chef prepares meals for guests behind glass; visible to the guests (6:41). Pink flamingos stand erect behind Conchita and Salvador as they tip back drinks (6:49). Conchita is blessed with a corsage from one of the managers of the restaurant (7:08). They moves to Rincon de Goya; a restaurant named for the Spanish painter; Francisco Goya (7:24). A small band plays at the table (7:33). A pair dance in the center of the restaurant in elegant Mexican dress (7:48) as waiters deliver meals dressed in old costumes from Spain (8:03). A mariachi band encircles Salvador and Conchita (8:14) as an artist sketches Conchita’s profile (8:18). The film turns to the lottery drawing (8:34). Loreto plays for young children (9:08). Costumed dancers honor Alberto Vargas; the creator of the Vargas girls, at La Fuente (9:25). The Varga Bridesmaid is seen (9:54) prior to the winner of the competition (9:58). The pair move to the Astoria (10:09) as an Afro-Cuba troupe dances in voodoo overtones. The eeriest nightclub in Mexico City is the Catacumbas (10:39). Employees dressed in ghoulish attire welcome guests (10:55). As the evening ends, Salvador rounds up Loreto and fellow mariachis to serenade Conchita with a melody outside her window (11:18). Conchita decides whether or not to see Salvador again by signifying with her light switch (11:35). A widow (11:45) and her family gather for a meal. (12:12). The tour heads to Panama City (14:28) and into the primitive jungles. A statue of Vasco Nunez de Balboa (14:42) overlooks the Bahia de Panama. The Panama Canal Zone is pictured (14:52). Panama’s neon signs buzz in the evening (15:07). A Hindu shop owner sells a Japanese Kimono to a customer (15:30). A store clerk displays a tea table with carved ivory tops (15:58). A man named Mr. Fritts watches dancers (16:24) at the Agewood Show. Mr. Fritts moves to the Salon Richie (16:52) to witness a man dancing with a live boa constrictor around his neck (16:57). Limbo dancers of Trinidad move onto the floor (17:19). Mr. Fritts awakes to a phone call (17:38) at three a.m. from the US government. Another character, Mr. Clifford Nurse (18:06); plays with his child at home prior to dinner. Mr. Nurse heads to work around midnight (18:58). Fritts is revealed to be a pilot (19:07). A vessel is pictured waiting at the entrance to the canal (19:11) for Captain Fritts (19:15). Mr. Nurse is filmed at work (19:36) operating the equipment which will tug the vessel through the locks (19:40). The complex procedure which moves the vessel through the locks begins (20:02). Ship to shore phone contact is maintained (20:23). The vessel goes to Gatun Lake (20:45). The daughters and sons of Panama’s wealthy dance after sundown (21:57). The youth enter El Panama Hilton (22:21). 4:30 am (23:13) as the film begins to wrap up.
