Why does Shadow have beef with Tails? If you check out the Sonic 3 trailer, you can see Shadow teleport behind Sonic, give him a look, and then just kick Tails! Like, seriously, what’s up with that? This isn’t the first time he’s done this—Shadow’s pulled similar stunts in Sonic X, Sonic ’06, and Sonic Boom. So, how did this weird beef between the fox and the hedgehog start? It’s almost turned into a running joke, but it all began in Sonic X. Tails had a legit reason to clash with Shadow because Shadow discovered that Cosmo was an unwitting spy for the Metarex. Shadow, being pragmatic, decided it was time for Cosmo to go, and went on a warpath. Tails, knowing this, still stood up to Shadow, which just frustrated him more. Shadow kept telling Tails to back off or he’d end up hurting him. That whole storyline in Sonic X was pretty intense and set the stage for their rivalry.
