After a dry summer, the first heavy rain of the season hit the Iraqi city of Erbil. There was also heavy hail in some areas. This led to flooding in many parts of the city, causing extensive damage to vehicles and property. Streets and buildings were flooded, and residents sought refuge on the rooftops. The authorities sent rescue teams to help the victims. Helicopters were also used for evacuation. Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan, is known for its poor sewerage and storm water systems, which often fail during heavy rains. Summers in the region are generally quite dry, with very little rainfall from May to November, and winters are usually rainy.
