Reviews of weather events, natural disasters, astronomical phenomena and wildlife around the world More than 5,000 people have been ordered to evacuate several areas in San Bernardino County, California, USA. The wildfire has already grown to 17,500 acres (7,000 hectares), local authorities said. The San Bernardino fire, dubbed the Line Fire, began on Thursday, September 5, at Base Line Road and Aplin Street in the city of Highland, east of Los Angeles. It increased from about 3,800 acres (1,500 hectares) on Saturday morning to 17,200 acres (6,900 hectares) on Sunday night. Currently, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CalFire), the fire is not even 1% contained. At least 35,400 structures are at risk, including homes, commercial buildings and other structures. A damage inspection team (DINS) was called to the scene, authorities noted. More than 600 firefighters are trying to control the flames. It is known that at least three rescuers were injured. There are no injuries or casualties among the civilian population yet. CalFire acknowledged that limited resources and logistical support are hampering firefighting efforts. Authorities noted that Line Fire's “erratic“ behavior was caused by gale-force winds. There remains a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the fire area, with temperatures ranging from 80°F (26.6°C) to 100°F (37.7°C). #California #wildfire #fire
