I started at Saint-Denis, passed by Roche Écrite, and descended into the Mafate Cirque volcanic caldera, known for its remote villages only accessible by foot. I then trekked through Îlet d'Aurère, Îlet à Malheur, and Grand Place, before climbing to the picturesque village of Cilaos via the Col du Taïbit pass. From Cilaos, I ascended to the highest peak in the Indian Ocean, Piton des Neiges, enjoying breathtaking views. Continuing south, I hiked through the Plaine des Cafres to Bourg-Murat, and then traversed the lunar-like landscape of Plaine des Sables. The journey included a side-trip to the active volcano, Piton de la Fournaise, before descending to Saint-Philippe, ending the hike with stunning ocean views at Cap Méchant. Interested in doing this hike? Check out the travel guide: The guide has a flexible 6-12 day itinerary and explains everything you need to know: how to get there, where to camp, where to stay in huts, when to go, the weather, and much more. Included are Custom Google Maps, GPX files and over 60 possible campsites I passed during my trek. This is an ambient film without dialog. ► TIMESTAMPS 0:00 Intro with drone shots 2:01 Day 1 - Mafate caldera 7:00 Day 2 - The villages of Mafate 13:19 Day 3 - Les Trois Roches waterfall 21:29 Day 4 - Piton des Neiges (3072m) 28:49 Day 5 - Plaine des Cafres mud 33:51 Day 6 - Piton de la Fournaise volcano 38:26 Day 7 - Down to the ocean 41:09 Snorkeling and outro #solohiking #camping #grr2 #reunion #thruhiking #france
