Lukas Reichel is a German ice hockey left winger who plays for Eisbären Berlin of the DEL. He made his DEL debut with Eisbären Berlin during the 2019–20 season. He was drafted by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 1st round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft with the 17th overall pick. He’s an unrelenting forechecker & backchecker, never gives up on a play, and wins battles through second efforts. Reichel is a pretty capable puck-handler too, even at top-speed carrying the puck through a defender’s triangle, showing a predilection for outside-in maneuvers, and deploying weight shifts to avoid contact. -EliteProspects 2020 NHL Draft Guide Fantasy Summary An offensive winger with great hockey sense, very good skating ability, good skills, good effort level, and decent size. Top-six upside. Not overly flashy but very efficient. Jeff Rea - Dobber Prospects - Sept. 30th: “He has a natural ability to read the flow of play, anticipate and time his movement and find open ice in the offensive zone. Reichel plays in high traffic areas and transitions the puck well and generates offense with apparent ease, despite his somewhat modest offensive skillset.“ Scott Wheeler - The Athletic - Sept. 21st: “There’s a comfort level about his game that I admire. He doesn’t rush plays under pressure. To have that assertiveness on the ice against professionals this early in his career is impressive.“ Steve Kourmianos - The Draft Analyst - Aug. 10th: “Another high-profile scorer from Germany who earned his keep in the Deutschen Eishockey Liga, Reichel is a 200-foot winger with a nasty wrist shot and release whose 18.5 shooting percentage was 10th in the league among players with 65 or more shots. “ Chris Peters - ESPN - June 30th: “Reichel creates space and can extend plays. He needs to get a lot stronger, but even though he can be outmuscled, he doesn’t shy away from puck battles. He makes really smart reads with the puck on his stick and processes the game quickly.“ Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - June 25th: “Too much creativity and offensive upside to worry about some teachable details defensively.“ Mike G. Morreale - - June 22nd: “His averages of assists per game and points per game are the fourth-highest by an under-18 player in the history of the DEL. The nephew of former NHL center Robert Reichel is a powerful skater, good on the forecheck and can create scoring chances around the net.“ Dayton Reimer - The Hockey Writers - May 22nd: “Reichel gives the group a huge boost, bringing an up-tempo game that has very few flaws already at just the age of 17. He can be relied on to create plays, score goals, and even chip in defensively.“ Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - Apr. 8th: “Plays a very aware offensive game, knowing where his linemates are at all times. Possesses the skill to make plays to open space for himself, or create lanes to distribute.“ Sam Cosentino - Sportsnet - Mar. 4th: “At this point, there’s plenty of offensive upside, but less certainty about play away from the puck and attention to detail in the defensive zone.“
