On December 7, 1988, at 11:41 a.m., an earthquake struck Soviet Armenia ◾️ Two tremors followed each other, just thirty seconds apart, and the Armenian Spitak was practically blown off the face of the earth. ◾️ The intensity of the earthquake in the epicenter of Spitak was 10 MSK. In neighboring Leninakan and Kirovokan, it was 9 and 8 MSK. ◾️ As a result of the earthquake and its consequences, more than 25 thousand people died, 514 thousand were left homeless, and 140 thousand were disabled. About 45 thousand construction workers from all over the USSR were rebuilding the republic. The Soviet Union was united for the last time, saving Armenia. Eternal memory to all those who died.
