Pacific Data Images 1987 Demo Reel

This demo reel was produced by and for Pacific Data Images, who at the time was one of, if not the premiere creator of computer animation for broadcast. If you watched TV in the '80s and '90s, then you no doubt have seen many of these before. This upload was sourced from a 3/4-inch videotape dub that I obtained from PDI. In order to preserve the smooth motion of the 525i original, I used hardware to up convert it to 720p, then captured it in ProRes with a Blackmagic Design Hyperdeck. Note that three of the elements -- the HBO movie open, Cinemax movie open, and Crest “Name That Flavor Game“ -- were sourced from 1-inch copies I had on hand. I replaced the 3/4-inch versions to maximize the quality.
