In the 18th century, chests of drawers became a symbol of the owner's wealth and social status, therefore chests of drawers were displayed in prominent places in the house, most often in the drawing room, and began to be referred to as chests of drawers. Today's modern chests evolved from chests around the 13th century, which were hollowed out of a tree trunk and had regularly aligned outer sides as well as a lid. It was only in the 15th century that chests appeared in the shape in which we would recognize them today.
