When more than half of your country’s population is obese, the healthcare providers must come up with new ways to tackle obesity. This is exactly what scientists at Oxford University plan to do – to find new methods so people can make healthier food choices, control their weight and reduce their chances of heart diseases. Public Health England reports that between 2012 and 2014 nearly 61% of adults were obese which means that the majority of the population is not only overweight but also susceptible to developing serious life-long maladies such as diabetes mellitus and heart diseases. To get to the bottom of this issue, a set of three studies will be funded by the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Collaboration and the scientists will theme their researches around behavioral issues regarding diet and obesity through low calorie foods, self-monitoring and awareness of food low in saturated fats. UK has been termed “the fat man of Europe” because it contains the highest number of obese people in Western Europe. According to a report by National Health Services (NHS), in 2014, 58% of women and 65% of men were obese and consequently, 60% of bariatric surgery patients were aged 35 to 54. One of the major factors of obesity is an abstinence from physical activity. Learn more at: FOLLOW ON TWITTER LIKE ON FACEBOOK More videos at:
