Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport was on a ground stop until at least 11 a.m. ET, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. According to the National Weather Service , the airport received three inches of rain in five hours, causing minor flooding. Specifically, travelers were unable to access the airport’s McNamara terminal due to flooding in the Dingell Drive tunnels, the airport said. Detroit Metropolitan Airport (DTW) is a major transportation hub for Delta and Spirit and receives more than 1,100 flights a day, according to its website. Rain is associated with a greater risk of severe storms and flooding in the Great Lakes region.
