Into Alaska - Searching for a Cabin & Portage to Great Glacier. 10-Days Family Camping in the Alaskan & B.C. Wild The rain won't let up and we're all soaked to the bone. Out map notes say there's a cabin in the area but we can't find it. Our notes are 30 years old so, maybe it's not there anymore we figure. I pull up on a sand bar and I get out of the canoe and walk ahead. My wife Tori think's there's no cabin to be found but I see a faint trail going up the muddy bank into thick northern rainforest vegetation. We follow it and sure enough, we find the small trapper's cabin which is nestled into a stand of giant Sitka Spruce. The cabin had a large woodstove and many hooks for hanging cloths to dry. I cut a bunch of wood and got a nice fire going while Tori cooked up a delicious medal of poutine for dinner and heavy rain continued to pelt the tin roof.
