Wolf pups rolling in snow on a beaver dam

Very kind of the two surviving Wiyapka Lake pups to put on a little show for the camera this winter! Note the very interesting and unique facial markings on these pups…both have dark faces/muzzles and the one has light-colored rings of fur around his eyes. The Wiyapka Lake Pack had 6 pups in Spring 2022 so two of the 6 pups survived. Although that is only a 33% survival rate, that is pretty typical in our area…most pups simply don’t make it. And we actually were able to collar the one with “light-colored rings” around his eyes this spring and have been studying his behavior and movements.
