The fountain group “The Birth of Aphrodite“ was made at the cast-iron factory of the citizen of the Russian Empire of German origin, the merchant San Galli. It was he who invented the cast-iron steam heating batteries. The fountain was not intended to decorate the street. Ona A, next to his house and garden, was his iron factory. The figure of Aphrodite was cast in 1870 for the winter garden located in the merchant’s house. It was not cast very well. Caverns appeared. Then the casters gave it to the electroplating masters, who covered the defective cast iron with copper. And then the chasers corrected the copper. After the revolution in 1930, the fountain was moved to the garden. And the copper completely corroded healed. The thinnest layer of copper covered almost the void - the cast iron was rusted by 90%. In 2000, the group gave it away for restoration, and after that they did not return it to its place, Aphrodite would not have met again to experience street life. Long time to make a fountain. But finances and craftsmen were found only in 2021. And now, instead of an earthen slide, there is again a fountain, and it works again. They say that Aphrodite reminded San Galli of either her daughter, or a free-willed one, who drowned in the Gulf of Finland. But there are no documents confirming this fact.
