美, 우크라 전쟁 이후 최대 규모 대러 제재 상징적 조처에 불과? The U.S. over the weekend announced more than 500 new sanctions against Russia over its invasion of Ukraine as well as the death of opposition leader Alexei Navalny. How effective will they be this time? We're joined by Professor Kim Hyun-wook. Welcome back. 1. This latest package brings the number of entities sanctioned to over 4,000. Will the fresh round of sanctions be a blow to Russia realistically? Some experts say it won’t be effective enough to hit Russia. 2. When it looked like Ukraine was losing international support, G7 members once again vowed to back Ukraine for as long as it takes. Where is this support coming from? Because the war has now entered its third year? 3. Some analysts also point out the West and the Global South are not on the same page when it comes to dealing with Russia and that that’s why sanctions on Moscow end up useless. Is that so? 4. The EU also unveiled its 13th raft of sanctions on Friday, targeting nearly 200 companies and people accused of helping Russia procure weapons. The list includes North Korea's defense minister. Will that help stop apparent arms deals between Pyongyang and Moscow? 5. Concerns are also growing that deepening weapons collaboration between the North and Russia can pose a threat on the Korean Peninsula. How can Seoul or its security allies stop that from happening other than by slapping on sanctions? Thank you so much for your insight this morning. We appreciate it.
