Rachel Reeves is set to announce the “very tough decisions” the Treasury will take to address a public spending black hole of around £20 billion in the government accounts. In a speech in the House of Commons, the chancellor will accuse the previous Conservative government of “covering up the true state of the public finances” as she revealed the results of the Treasury spending audit she commissioned.
