‘Children are like drunk, they hallucinate,’ says an ambulance driver in the Kazakh village of Kalachi. Hundreds of people here have suffered from ‘sleeping sickness.’ Men, women and children could fall into deep sleep for hours or even days. Scientists are still unable to explain the cause of this ailment. It is only known that, most likely, people fell asleep from lack of oxygen with increased concentration of carbon monoxide and hydrocarbons in the air. What do the locals think?
