More than 70 years since the first successful organ transplant, a team of scientists in Gothenburg are using ‘3D bioprinting’ to replicate human organs. Cellink have already used their technology as part of cancer treatments, to make liver models for drug screening campaigns and are helping beauty brands become animal cruelty free. Researchers are now hoping to use bioprinted cartilage in patients with muscle issues. There is hope that this technology could eventually help to generate organs for those needing transplants.
