Malcolm Tattersall is an Australian musician and writer who now lives in Townsville, Queensland. He worked for a few years in electronics and computing before commencing studies in music (recorder and composition) at Melbourne University. Then, after a decade teaching recorder in Melbourne, he moved North in 1990. He teaches recorder, flute, saxophone and clarinet in schools and privately, and performs in ensembles including baroque chamber group The Telemann Ensemble. Arabesques draws on an eclectic range of influences, from the structure of Indian ragas to the symmetries of abstract decorative art. The first movement, slow and floridly decorated, is followed by a vigorous ‘moto perpetuo’ in 5/8 and 7/8. We are playing modern pitch alto and tenor recorders by Hiroyuki Takeyama. This was part of a concert given in May 2022 as part of the Three Towers Festival, Stanton Prior.
