Miguel Arcanjo is a 23-year-old boy who lives in poverty with his mother, Da Guia, with his sister Angela, lovingly rejected, and the brother-in-law, Bio in Paraíba. He tries to help his family with household expenses with prostitution and is afraid to prove herself homosexual to the family. His sister is a woman insecure and repressed by her husband, with whom she has not been happy. She lives to take care of the house and the grumpy and unappreciated mother, who suffers from the consequences of diabetes without has been abused by his brother-in-law for years and feels obliged to hide his secrets from the family. His only comfort is the friendship with neighbor John, a postman who every day reads stories to Maura, a blind woman of thirty years who longs to have her first sexual experience.
