For Eldon Obrecht (1920-2011) Robert Paul Block was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1942, and grew up in Chicago. He studied at Roosvelt University (Chicago Musical College) majoring in composition and received his Bachelor end Master’s Degrees there. His formal composition teachers were Karel Jirak, Robert Muczinski and Robert Lombardo. After completing his studies at Roosvelt, he went to the university of Iowa studiyng under Richeard Hervig and learning more in addition from Eldon Obrecht. Since he has been
