Titles read: “US SHIPPING - PROFIT AND LOSS“. United States of America. L/Ss of the transport ship 'Wakefield' on fire at sea. Ship was formerly the liner 'Manhattan'. She was in a large convoy when the fire “of undetermined origin“ broke out. Huge crowds at a dockyard to watch a naval ship being launched. L/S of a ship being launched sideways at the Henry Kaiser Yard. L/S of another ship being launched. Shipyard workers wave from the bow of a ship beneath a sign reading 'Ships For Victory'. Some of the survivors of the USS carrier Lexington are seen at a shipyard, looking at a picture of the ship. It was badly damaged in the battle of the Coral Sea and had to be sunk by American torpedoes. Mrs Theodore Robinson, who named the first Lexington 17 years before, launches the new Lexington ship (natural sound). Note: visuals cut out at 01:18:43; soundtrack continues to end.
