Instagram: @Microtonalguitarist , @Ronsword Microtonal guitar necks: ---------------------------------------- Here's a video from early 2019 on the subharmonic series 32-16 guitar. This piece shows that familiar stuff is still present on the guitar despite being fairly arbitrarily chosen chunk of the series. For those of you out there that aren't well-versed in Just Intonation scales, this guitar is tuned to near-standard guitar (in near fourths and a third), but is fretted to a chunk of subharmonic series. This was done so that a guitarist could explore a pure chunk of the harmonic series while retaining familiar mapping under the hands. This scale is a chunk of the series from 32/31 to 32/16 for a 16-note just intonation scale. The root, 1/1, is found on the lowest 7th string, tuned to 'A'. I avoided straight frets to be forced in a direction to play non-barred chord voicings and challenge myself, but kept connected fretting as much as possible so bending was still possible in most areas. The guitar has an organic playing experience as everywhere is different and there are different things to do. You could make the frets “more straight“ if the goal was to preserve barring in areas.
