It said the case was inadmissible, partly because the group — comprising campaigners aged 11 to 24 — had not brought their case to a court in Portugal first. The court did, however, agree with the Klima Seniorinnen, or Senior Women for Climate Protection, that the Swiss government’s failures on tackling carbon emissions had breached the authorities’ duty to protect citizens from the “serious adverse effects” of a rapidly warming world.
