the loveparade was a renowned electronic dance music festival that began in berlin in 1989 and continued until 2006 before moving to the ruhr area from 2007 to 2010. started by dj dr. motte and multimedia artist danielle de picciotto, it began as a small street parade advocating for peace, joy, and equitable food distribution under the slogan “friede, freude, eierkuchen.” the first event had 150 participants, but by 1999, it attracted up to 1.5 million people. in 2001, the event lost its demonstration status and was reclassified as a commercial event. the loveparade faced cancellations in 2004, 2005, and 2009 due to organizational and financial issues. it resumed in berlin in 2006 but moved to the ruhr area in 2007. the 2010 event in duisburg ended in tragedy with a stampede causing 21 deaths, leading to its permanent discontinuation. in 2020, dr. motte founded rave the planet to revive the parade's spirit. the first “rave the planet parade” was planned for july 2021 but postponed to july 2022 due to the pandemic and welcomed 300k ravers. the next rave the planet will be held in berlin this year on august 17th. the loveparade left an indelible mark on electronic dance music, transforming it into a global phenomenon and bringing it into the mainstream. its early days remain legendary and iconic. do you think this magic can ever return? 📹 Sound of Berlin Documentary by @embassyonerecords/ YT
