Catastrophes are here and now. Global warming is not far off. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- JUST LIKE TSUNAMI! Floods ravage cities in Mallorca and Menorca, Spain. A strong storm, called DANA, has wreaked havoc on the Balearic Islands. Various parts of both Mallorca and Menorca experienced enormous amounts of rainfall. City streets have turned into huge flowing rivers. Local residents joke and say that a tsunami hit their city. More than ten thousand people were forced to evacuate. The city that suffered the most was Mercadal, located in Menorca. Residents had difficulty hiding from the flow of water. Some even hang out on the roofs, especially residents of the first floors. After all, the water level in the lowlands reached a couple of meters. Cars, street debris, chairs and tables were carried away through the streets. And now in Port de Sóller, which on Mallorca resembles a real river flowing into the sea. The beach was literally swept out to sea. More than 50 flights at airports were cancelled. A day earlier, due to a storm, strong waves smashed the boats on the shore and overturned them into the sea. But it was the flash floods that caused the most damage to the islands. In particular, in Banyalbufar, 102 liters of water per square meter were recorded in 24 hours. In Petra 99 liters fell and 96 liters in Son Torrell, Escorca. Roads were blocked and flooding caused a lot of inconvenience for drivers. In addition, even in Ljuka, 76 liters of water were recorded, which was also flooded. There have even been reports of power outages in parts of both islands. Lightning strikes knocked out a couple of central electrical switchboards. The worst of the storm has passed, but authorities urged people to stay home. Emergency services reported thousands of rescues and incidents. The agency maintained its orange alert level, having previously downgraded it from red. Rain can lead to even worse consequences. Some vehicles were trapped, preventing residents from reaching and leaving some homes. The region is currently experiencing moderate to heavy rainfall followed by thunderstorms. Parts of the streets were completely flooded, causing inconvenience for pedestrians. Thunderstorms led to local power outages. Basements in the cities were affected by flooding. However, due to its close location to the sea and the greenhouse effect, heavy rains are falling more and more often. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The channel lists such natural disasters as: 1) Geological emergencies: Earthquake, volcanic eruption, mudflow, landslide, landfall, avalanche; 2) Hydrological emergencies: Flood, Tsunami, Limnological catastrophe, floods, flooding; 3) Fires: Forest fire, Peat fire, Glass Fire, Wildfire; 4) Meteorological emergencies: Tornado, Cyclone, Blizzard, Hail, Drought, Hail, Hurricane, Storm, Thunderstorm, typhoon, Tempest, Lightning.
