In fact, I haven't heard it for a long time, but the phrase, it's really coming down out there, is a phrase that we use when it's raining really, really hard outside. So we thought we were gonna get rain the other day. We had a severe thunderstorm watch. We never did get a severe thunderstorm warning, unfortunately, and we didn't get any rain. So we didn't get the chance to say, it's really coming down out there. Usually this is something you say when it's raining really hard outside and you're standing in the window of your house, maybe, and you're just watching the rain come down. We also use this in Canada and other English-speaking countries where it snows to talk about snow when it comes down really, really hard and really, really fast. You could say, “Wow, it's really coming down out there.“ WANT MORE ENGLISH LESSONS? This is a phrase that, when you are learning English, it's one of the first phrases that you learn when you're talking about weather. You learn to say, oh, when it's raining hard, English people say it's raining cats and dogs, or it's raining cats and dogs out there. And we used to say this. I remember as a kid hearing people say it. If you watch older movies or television shows, you might hear it. But lately I have not heard this phrase very often, except in videos where people teach English. I've even taught it myself, that sometimes we say it's raining cats and dogs outside. We might still say it once in a while, just for fun. But it has certainly been a long time, which is kind of how languages work. Things slowly change. So instead we say, instead of saying, it's raining cats and dogs, we say, it's really coming down out there. Or we would say, it's really coming down. It's raining like crazy. It's pouring rain, it's raining buckets. And even some other areas in Canada have their own special expressions. I think out where my father-in-law lives, he says, “It's coming down like ropes.“ I think I've heard that before. Pretty rare to say that as well, but definitely you will hear people say, it's really coming down out there. Let's look at a comment from one of my previous videos. This is from Athanasios Souliotis. Hopefully, Nathan GR, I said that correctly. “Thanks for the lesson teacher Bob. Greece these days, we are expecting some heat waves during the week. The temperature will go up to 37 to 39 degrees Celsius. No severe thunderstorm watch, let alone severe thunderstorm warning. Stay cool, stay safe.“ Wow, that's hot. It rarely gets that hot in my part of Canada. I know once or twice a year, it gets up to about 36 or 37 degrees. My reply to this though was, “Wow, that is really hot. I hope you find a way to stay cool.“ So I hope you have air conditioning or a pool or somewhere else that you can go, Athanasios, where you can stay cool during a hot time like this. I will say though, that here in Canada, though, we have had 26 days where it's been over 30 degrees Celsius. And we normally, at this point in the year, only have 16 days where it's been over 30 degrees Celsius. So we have had 10 days in my part of Ontario, Canada, where it's been hotter than 30 degrees, more than normal. So normally we have about 16. We've already had 26 days. They just said that on the news last night. I was watching the news and on the weather, they said, we've set a record. I think we've set a record. Where we've had 30, sorry, 26 days where it's been over 30 degrees. So that's really, really hot. We've noticed it on the farm. We've noticed on the farm that we are watering things a lot more than we normally do. It would've really been nice to get rain yesterday. You know that because I'm a farmer, I'm gonna talk about weather quite often in these videos. But anyways, thanks for watching. Do leave a comment. I do read all of them, even if I don't reply and I'll pick one for the next video. --- ⌛ Be sure to watch the video TWICE today and ONCE tomorrow to reinforce the English that you have learned! --- ✅ SUBSCRIBE RIGHT HERE: --- ✅ Looking for longer English lessons?
