Ruth and Jay try to save the life of a terminally ill man, who knows there is no chance of recovering, but whose wife is trying to persuade him to accept a useless and painful treatment. Ruth is worried her medication is no longer working and discovers this is because she is pregnant. Patients include a social worker knocked down by a car, while chasing a young mother running away with her baby, and the same baby with mysterious lesions.
