I know a lot of you love the berry knot (and I do too!) so today I’m sharing a full wall hanging tutorial that incorporates this knot. I love how this one turned out - I hope you enjoy it too! If you do a quick like, comment and subscribe really does help out my channel. Thanks so much. Let’s get started! I wanted to go for a bit of a chunkier look for this wall hanging so I used 6mm natural string. In total you will need approx. 600 ft of 6mm string. Cut one piece of string that is 12 ft, 14ft and 16 ft. Cut 16 pieces of string that are 7 ft, and 74 pieces of string that are 6 ft long. These measurements are also listed in the description for you along with the written instructions for this tutorial. A quick note - when finished the fringe that hangs below the outer layer of berry knots is between 20 inches and 26 inches long. If you want your fringe for ex. to be half a foot shorter, then cut your 6 ft and 7 ft pieces 1 ft shorter (as we fold them in half to create the wall hanging). You can also adjust this pattern to create a bigger or smaller wall hanging by simply adding more cords and tying more berry knots or taking away cord and tying less. Grab your 12 ft piece of string and fold it in half to find the centre. Using a cow hitch knot, attach the centre of the string approx. 3 inches to the left of the middle of the driftwood. Let the string hang down approx. 3 inches and then again using a cow hitch knot, attach the string approx. 3 inches to the right of the middle of the driftwood. Grab the 16 7-ft pieces of string and fold each in half and attach them using a Lark’s Head knot. Using the cord on the left as your filler cord, tie one row of double half hitch knots along your work. We will tuck the filler cord between the two cords as I’ve done here so that it doesn’t stick out on the right side. Tie 6 berry knots across your work starting on the left. To tie your berry knots grab 4 cords. Tie 3 square knots leaving a little bit of space at the top before the first square knot. Thread the filler cords through the top, bring them around and then tie another square knot to hold the berry in place. For this layer we will end up with two extra cords and here is how to hide them in your work. When tying the last two berry knots (to total 8 berry knots) add one cord to the filler cords (so 3 instead of 2) for each berry knot. For the next two layers we will repeat the same process except this time adding more string and then tying more knots. Fold the 14 ft piece of string in half to find the centre. Attach it approx. 2 inches to the left of the first layer using a cow hitch knot. Let the string hang and then attach it again 2 inches to the right of the first layer. Grab 31 6-ft pieces of string, fold each in half and attach using Lark’s Head knots. Using the cord on the left as your filler cord, tie one row of double half hitch knots along your work. Again tuck the filler cord in on the right side. Repeat the same process to tie 16 berry knots across your work. This time we will not have two extra cords at the end. When you get to the last knot use the filler cord from the row of dhhks as one of your filler cords when creating the berry knot. Fold the 16 ft piece of string in half to find the centre. Attach it approx. 2 inches to the left of the second layer using a cow hitch knot. Let the string hang and then attach it again 2 inches to the right of the first layer. Grab the remaining 6-ft pieces of string (there should be 43 left), fold each in half and attach using Lark’s Head knots. Using the cord on the left as your filler cord, tie one row of double half hitch knots along your work. Repeat the same process to tie 22 berry knots across your work. This time we will not have two extra cords at the end. Just before trimming and photographing this piece I made a last minute decision to add in a few barrel knots as you can see here. Feel free to add them in or leave them out. I’ll add a link to my barrel knot tutorial in the description if you’re interested in adding a few in. Trim to your desired shape and length. I trimmed mine so that the fringe sits approx. 16 inches down from the third layer of berry knots on the sides and 18 inches down from the third layer of berry knots in the middle. Thanks so much for watching!
