All the instruments and vocals were played and recorded simultaneously in one take. All the sounds except drums come from my Yamaha MX61 synthesizer. The Novation Impulse MIDI-keyboard is plugged to the MX61 via MIDI cable and works as a second manual for the MX61. The AKAI MPX8 sampler is playing 2 pre-recorded loops for each chord progression of the song. I put the loops on two different pads and also the final snare sound on the third pad. Each loop consists of drums (I used TR-808’s samples for them), rhythm synth playing chords and the first note in the bar of the bass line, so I could switch between the loops smoothly while playing the bass line. The MPX8 is plugged into MX61’s Aux Input, so all the instrument sounds were recorded from MX61’s stereo output simultaneously. Vocals are recorded on ZOOM H1 recorder’s flash memory and then mixed with the instrumental part.
