Prokofiev Kirov Orquesta Directed by Valery Gergiev St Petersburg 1998 EuroArts Louisa appears on the balcony! Good comic operas are rare enough in any period, and particulary scarce in the twentieth century. It's a quite a surprise, therefore, to find one of the best of them, Prokofiev's Betrothal in a Monastery, was composed against the most dismal background one could possibly imagine: Moscow in 1940.
