The New Rabotnik [363] This video is about an extraordinary reaction of an artist to a critical text of a serious writer on art. The well know theorist Camiel van Winkel explaines in the art journal “De Witte Raaf” that he was not able to understand the deeper meaning of Anne Teresa’s iconic work “Dark Red”. In this dance she explores the possible dance figurations that are hidden in the sculptural works of two famous men, Hans Arp and August Rodin. Starting from some works of them, collected in the Basel Fondation Beyeler, Anne Teresa made a choreography that was presented in Basel, but also in Brussels, in her own Rosas Performance Space. It seems for all of us, a simple starting point, but Camiel, when in Brussels, could not get the essence of the whole performance. A simple series of movements, inspired by the sculptures in Basel collection, did him doubt his own judgement. Because, in Brussels, with no sculptures present, only the presence of the dancers, could not convince Camiel. And especially the presence of Anne Teresa herself made him insecure. The 85 questions she asks - to herself ?, to the dancers ?, to the public ? – provoked him to write his critique. This video is a visual reaction to Camiels tekst. The critique we can find here:
